The PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour returns to the Sunshine State this weekend for the 2026 Caboolture Invitational, to be held at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre arena on Saturday, 29 August.

A big evening of action kicks off at 4:00p.m. AEST, with all four divisions of the Cam-Am Junior Academy in action. The Monster Energy Tour main event will hit the dirt at 7:00p.m. and will include the Challenger Series competition.

Zane Hall dominated the 2026 Adelaide Invitational, going a perfect 2-for-2 to claim his fourth win of the season and move to No. 2 in the PBR Australia National Standings.

The Athol cowboy took home more than $22,000 in prize money after also pocketing a $10,000 bonus as the top-performing rider at the Melbourne and Adelaide Invitationals.

Bungundarra young gun Thomas Triplett was runner-up after posting the night's highest ride score of 89 points aboard Splintas Man Glitter (Morgys Cattle Company). Last Post earned YETI Bucking Bull of the Night honours for Dunne Bulls with a 43.70 bull score.

Caboolture Invitational Event History

Last season, Lachlan Slade took out the win, holding off a fast-finishing Clint Glass to ensure he qualified for the 2025 PBR Australia Grand Finals in Townsville.

Zane Hall secured a big win at the 2024 event, going 3-for-3 over the two nights of competition, with Boston Leather and Rylee Ward fighting it out for the minor placings.

In 2023, Sam Woodall put together one of the highest 2-bull aggregate scores we have ever seen in PBR Australia competition, riding On Bail (MJ/Keliher) and Mr T (Wallace) for 88.5 points each, for a total of 177.00 points.

This weekend's Format, Prizemoney and Points

Twenty-five riders will line up at the start this weekend, with $20,000 in prize money on the line.

All riders have drawn a bull for Round 1 of the competition, and the top 12 will return for the Monster Energy Championship Round. The final round will be decided by a live draft and will feature ten of the top twelve bulls in the 2026 Bucking Bull of the Year race.

A maximum of 280 points will be available to any individual rider towards the 2026 PBR Australian National Standings. Each round winner will receive 40 points, and the event champion will receive 200 points.

Talking Points

The Gold Buckle Race

Much of the chatter this week has been about Zane Hall and his rise up the National Standings Leaderboard. 

His form line reads Win-2nd-Win across his last three tour starts. Hall also took an extra bull at Origin III in Sydney, which gave him a 4th place finish, and his riding record over the period sits at 6-from-8. 

Last weekend's win in Adelaide earned him 254 championship points, and we have gone from talking about him trailing the No. 1-ranked Kurt Shephard by just under 1000 points to trailing by just 319 points in a matter of weeks.

Keny Roger de Oliveria remains well within striking distance, but he needs to start taking advantage of opportunities to post higher scores. Rookie contender Ethan Coster will be hoping to regain some consistency after a disappointing couple of months on tour and get his name back in the fight.

Who else can make a run to get themselves into the Gold Buckle conversation? Sam Woodall, Donnie Rutherfurd and Rylee Ward appear to be well placed to begin a run over the next four weekends.

The Caboolture Bull Pen

Several of the Queensland-based Stock Contractors who hauled bulls to Victoria and South Australia will be back in action at Caboolture as they head home after a couple of busy months. While those bulls will be fresh in the cowboys’ minds, the riders will also need to contend with some they haven’t seen in quite a while.

Joining CF7 Bucking Bulls, Keliher Bucking Bulls and Dunne Bulls in the QSEC Arena will be Dittmann Bucking Bulls, MC Bucking Bulls, Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls and ST Bucking Bulls.

As I mentioned earlier, the short go draft list reads like a who's who of bucking bulls in Australia. 

This weekend we will see the leader of the Bucking Bull of the Year race, Stetson Nirvana (Dittmann Bucking Bulls), go head-to-head with the chasing pack. His best six trips average 43.86 points, and he will look to improve that mark with a trip higher than his low of 43.55 points.

No. 2-ranked Last Post (Dunne Bulls) averages 43.74 points, with a low of 42.90 points. 

Defending champion Alpha Blokes Warden (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls) sits third on a 43.58-point average, with a low score of 43.40 points, while his penmate Winchester is just behind in fourth on 43.35 points and is looking to drop a 42.40-point trip.

Matchups to Watch

Luke Parkinson on 172 Roam Aviation Without Warning (Dunne Bulls)

Parkinson rode very well last weekend, finishing seventh in his return to the Monster Energy Tour, and he has a great chance to build on that momentum here. Without Warning has been an excellent draw for right-handed riders, with a 55% conversion rate. Rylee Ward won the bonus round in Sydney with 86.95 points, and Dylan Weir was 86.50 points in Melbourne. The bull bucks at a strong tempo, won't stray too far from the gate, and doesn’t have too many tricks. Four of the nine total rides have been good enough to win the round, and that’s what the Denman bull rider will be aiming for here.

Sam Woodall on 2840 Midnight (MC Bucking Bulls)

The Heywood cowboy would have been disappointed to miss out on a score at Adelaide after his strong showing in Melbourne the week prior, but he gets a chance to rebound quickly aboard Midnight. This bull has been ridden for four straight scores, averaging in the low 80s. He doesn’t have a set pattern, but I think he prefers turning back to the left, and he can fake before committing to the turn. Fellow right-hander Boston Leather was 83.50 points at Origin II in Brisbane in June, and if Woodall can land in those areas, he should end up with a semi-decent position in the Championship Round draft.

Leith Malone on 120 Silver Bullet (CF7 Bucking Bulls)

Silver Bullet has bucked off his last four opponents after giving up a handful of scores early in his career, averaging 83.30 points. His pattern has remained relatively consistent, but he has been getting the better riders off his back late in the clock. He prefers a spin to the left, but he can take a jump, or three, before making his turn back. Malone went 3-from-4 across the events in Brisbane and Cairns before injury cut his winter run short. These two synced up for 84 points at the St Gregs Touring Pro event earlier this season, and I think they can repeat the dose here, with the bull expected to turn back into the Mareeba talent's left riding hand once again.
