Kelsey Pavlou delivered a superb come-from-behind performance to win the 2026 Monster Energy Orange Invitational before a packed crowd at Wade Park on Saturday night.

The Toora bull rider was one of two riders to complete both rides on an exciting night of bull riding on the Central Tablelands. He held off a late challenge from Kurt Shephard, who bounced back into the top spot in the 2026 PBR Australia National Standings with a runner-up finish.

Pavlou entered his Round 1 matchup after bucking off his last four bulls, but he quickly ended that streak with 84.40 points aboard Cohens Tequila (Dittmann Bucking Bulls). The bull showed his quickness as he worked his way around to the left initially before reversing to the right, with the 24-year-old largely untroubled as he finished the ride strong into his hand. 

The ride score placed the Victorian second in the round, and with the No. 2 pick in the Championship Round draft, he eagerly selected Candy Paint (Lazy G Bucking Bulls/Pakallus/Edgar).

Pavlou made no mistakes, converting the clockwise-spinning bull to his riding hand for 83.80 points. The score placed him second in the round, raised his aggregate total to 168.20 points and pushed his event earnings to almost $7,200 in prizemoney.

Kurt Shephard made it three straight top-five finishes with his second-place finish in Orange on 164.20 points. He overcame plenty of adversity to grit out 79.80 points aboard Coloured Past (Australian Western Sports) in the opening round, leaving him with the No. 7 pick in the short-go draft.

The Mareeba talent selected Humdinger (Dittmann Bucking Bulls) and became the first rider to make the whistle, with a textbook ride into his hand to win the Championship Round with 84.40 points.

The best of the bunch with a single score was Rylee Ward, who won Round 1 in his favourable matchup against On Bail (Swain Cattle Company) for 84.70 points. The Kiwi couldn't capitalise on his No. 1 draft pick, bucking off Stetsons Nirvana at 6.64 seconds in the final round.

Willow Tree’s Clint Glass produced another solid performance, making it four straight events earning a cheque with 82.80 points into his hand aboard Honey Hole (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) early in the opening round to hold on for fourth place.

Finishing close behind in fifth place on 82.70 points was Proserpine young gun Ky Borghero, who conquered the rarely ridden Del Rio (Maynes Bucking Bulls) away from his hand.

Zane Hall battled through injury to pick up sixth money, continuing his late-season run with 82.50 points in the opening round aboard Cool Hand (Australian Western Sports). The Athol talent sustained a left-knee injury entering the chutes for his short-round matchup. The severity of his injury will be monitored over the coming weeks as the final run of events approaches.

Tumut’s Dylan Weir finished seventh after earning 81 points in his Round 1 matchup with Mr Inbetween (Australian Western Sports) and was the final cowboy to earn points on a difficult night, as expected, for the riders in Orange.

The leading end of the 2026 PBR Australian National Standings saw a lot of shuffling this weekend, with six of the seven riders who produced a qualified ride residing inside the top ten.

Kurt Shephard regained the No. 1 spot, with his runner-up finish netting him 190 championship points and opening a 97-point gap over No. 2-ranked Zane Hall.

Rylee Ward picked up 138 points and climbed from 8th to 5th, bumping Clint Glass down to 6th.

Kelsey Pavlou was the biggest mover, with his 256-point haul pushing him up three spots to 7th place with his event win.

In the Grand Finals qualification watch, Dylan Weir pushed himself clear of the cut line into 18th place.

Stetson Nirvana picked up his eighth YETI Bucking Bull of the Night award of the season for Dittmann Bucking Bulls, after he was marked 43.20 points in his Championship Round matchup against Rylee Ward.

Runner-up was Brokedown (K3F – Farley Bucking Bulls), who was very impressive in his opening-round matchup with Charlie Bailey. Bad Boy Brown (Lazy G Bucking Bulls) and Road Rage (Dittmann Bucking Bulls) shared the final step on the podium with 42 points each.

For the second week in a row, the cowboys finished a ride below the season average riding percentage of 27.31%. The average ride score was 82.90 points, about 0.40 points below the average. The bulls finished 0.18 points higher than last week, but were 0.32 points below the season average of 41.38 points.

After a long couple of months on the road, the cowboys have earned some well-deserved time off from PBR Australia competition ahead of the final run of events.

Competition resumes with the Kilkivan Touring Pro, hosted by Keliher Bucking Bulls on Saturday, 10 October, with the Monster Energy Tour back the following weekend for the two-night 2026 Mackay Invitational, which begins on Friday, 16 October.
