Slade Claims Caboolture Crown to Bound into Grand Finals Qualification Spot

Lachlan Slade outlasted a strong field of over thirty riders at the 2025 Caboolture Invitational on Saturday night in front of a sold-out Queensland State Equestrian Centre Arena crowd.

The Tamworth cowboy's single score of 87.50 points aboard Halliday Which Way (Dittmann Bucking Bulls) in the opening round of the competition was enough to net him his first Monster Energy Tour event win of the season.

Riding into his right hand, Slade handled every move that Halliday Which Way threw at him with ease, dominating the matchup from the moment the gate cracked. His share of the score came in at 45 points, which equals the highest rider score recorded on tour this year.

It was a timely win for the 31-year-old, who jumped up multiple spots on the 2025 PBR Australian National Standings leaderboard and now sits inside the cut line for Grand Finals qualification in 17th position.

Accepting the buckle during the presentation ceremony, Slade said he was pleased with his performance en route to his fifth career PBR event win.

"I haven't been on a bull since Cairns last month, so I probably should have got on a few in the practice pen," he grinned.

"But it all worked out in the end."

With the first selection in the Championship Round draft, Slade set up a rematch with Nirvana (Dittmann Bucking Bulls), but he was unable to stick with the bull and the buck off came just shy of the 4-second mark.

Clint Glass made the most of a second chance opportunity to finish runner-up to Slade in the event after he scraped into the ten-man Championship Round with the highest buck-off time of the long round of 7.94 seconds. At the completion of the draft, he was left with Seven Eleven (CF7 Bucking Bulls/Pugh Brothers/ADS Mining Services).

The Willow Tree bull rider made light work of his opponent, posting the only qualified ride of the final round – marked 87 points with a smooth ride away from his right riding hand. The judges also awarded Glass a season-high rider score of 45 points.

Rylee Ward wound up his night in third place after he covered Evolution (ST Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 of the competition. The Kiwi young gun overcame a tricky start to the matchup to finish strong, combining with the bull for 84 points.

Drafting from the No. 2 spot for the Championship Round, Ward chose Mooseys Moto Moto (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls and McGuire Partnership). The bull threw plenty at him and eventually drew the slap at 6.71 seconds.

Nash Mellers and Beau Willis shared fourth spot on the event leaderboard with dual 83.50-point rides in the opening round. Mellers rode Mood Swing (Dunne Bulls) and Willis covered Off The Radar (Dittmann Bucking Bulls) in the opening round.

Splitting sixth place were Kurt Shephard and Jack Rowlandson with 83-point rides. Shephard's long round score came aboard Stone Bomber (MC Bucking Bulls), while Rowlandson was successful aboard Little Scar Maker (ST Bucking Bulls).

Brazilian riders started the night strong with Diego Galdino becoming the first rider to make the whistle in Round 1 when he rode Vanilla Ice (MC Bucking Bulls) for 82.50 points. Luan Crystian Camara was next out on the daysheet, and he posted 82 points aboard Thickshake (MC Bucking Bulls).

Sam Woodall completed the top 10 with his 79.50-point ride in the opening round on Redemption (Ruhland Ranch Bucking Bulls).

With his sixth-place finish, Kurt Shephard extended his lead in the race for the 2025 PBR Australian National Championship with his lead over No. 2 ranked Luan Crystian Camara now over 400 points.

Rylee Ward and Clint Glass were the only two riders inside the top 10 to make ground on Shephard in Caboolture, but both riders are still multiple event wins adrift of the title race.

Splitting the YETI ABBI High Marked Bull of the night award were Nirvana (Dittmann Bucking Bulls) and Twist & Shout (Dunne Bulls), who were both marked 43.50 points in the Championship Round.

Nirvana collected his fifth award of the season when he defeated Lachlan Slade in 3.71 seconds, while Twist & Shout's score came in just 1.94 seconds against Nash Mellers.
