After picking up his first PBR Australia buckle at the Tasman Cup in Townsville last weekend, Alison Aguiar (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) was again announced as an event champion on Saturday night following his perfect showing in front of a packed house at the 2025 Cairns Invitational.
The Brazilian kicked off his night with a solid bull ride aboard Manshake (T&F Bucking Bulls/L&R Finch Partnership). The bull threw plenty of tricks at him, but Aguiar handled them with ease, posting 85.75 points to share the round win.
He then took full advantage of his No. 1 seeding in the Championship Round Draft, selecting a cowboy favourite, Ambush (CF7 Bucking Bulls), with his pick.
As the last rider to nod his head in the final round, the 29-year-old simply had to make the whistle so seal the victory. Ambush took two hops to the centre of the arena and turned back to the right and away from his left riding hand. Aguilar looked to have a great seat early, and he maintained it for the full 8 seconds, posting the second-highest score of the night. His 86.25-point score took his aggregate score to 172.00 points.
Speaking in his native Portuguese, an ecstatic Aguilar thanked the big Cairns crowd for their support and said that he was very excited to win his second PBR event.
Aguiar was the only competitor to go 2-for-2 on what was a night of missed opportunities for the cowboys, with plenty of riders bucking off their bulls in what appeared to be favourable opening round matchups.

Despite bucking off his first bull of the night, Kurt Shephard finished in second place as the best rider with one score. The Mareeba talent was the final rider to make it back into the 14-man Championship Round on buck-off time, and he was left with Seven Eleven (CF7 Bucking Bulls/Pugh Bros/ADS Mining Service) after the other 13 riders had made their selections.
Coming into the event, Seven Eleven had bucked off his last 34 opponents dating back to Bloomsbury in April 2022. After taking a couple of long jumps out into the arena, the bull turned back to the left. Shephard made no mistakes and he was awarded the highest score of the night - 86.50 points.
Diego Galdino split the opening round win with Aguiar and finished the event in third place. The Brazilian’s 85.75-point score came aboard Cover Up (CF7 Bucking Bulls). It was the second time that Galdino had made the whistle on the bull, who again turned back to the left and into his hand.
Tamworth cowboy Lachlan Slade wound up in fourth place after he covered Reckless Discharge (Dunne Bulls). The bull worked his way around to the right with the pair combining for 84.75 points in the opening round.
Tyson Smith ended the night in fifth place on 84 points after he put together a nice ride aboard Hawkeye (Kleier Bucking Bulls). Right-handers have dominated this bull at recent events, and the bull produced another friendly trip with the Walcha talent remaining in control until the whistle.
Maldon’s Toby Collins finished close behind on 83.75 points with his score coming aboard On Edge (T&F Bucking Bulls/Jaxon Burrell).
Josh Alexander was the first rider to post a score in the long round. The Novocastrian received 82.25 points for his ride aboard Just Right (Keliher Bucking Bulls).
Mount Isa bull rider Donnie Rutherford was the eighth and final rider to receive a cheque. He survived a direction change and gritted out 81.75 points on Soulja Boy (CF7 Bucking Bulls/Heffernan).
With his event win, Alison Aguiar collected 121 points towards the National Standings, and he jumped from No. 12 to No. 9 in the rankings.
No. 1 ranked Kurt Shephard collected 78 points from his runner-up finish, and that extended his lead at the top of the leaderboard to over 300 points. Luan Crystian Camara remains his closest challenger.
