Perfect Cody Heffernan Wins PBR Australia Touring Pro Division Event in Kilkivan, Queensland

KILKIVAN, Qld. – Marking is second event win of the 2022 season, 2016 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Australia Champion Cody Heffernan (Singleton, New South Wales) delivered a perfect performance Saturday evening in Kilkivan Queensland to capture the victory at the Touring Pro Division’s PBR Kilkivan.

Heffernan quickly captured the lead in Round 1 when he covered Pirate Patch (Running Gold Bucking Bulls) for 85 points.

In Round 2, the New South Wales man next went head-to-head with On Bail (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls). Matching the bull jump-for-jump, Heffernan reached the requisite 8 for an event-best 85.5 points to cement the win.

For his efforts, Heffernan earned a critical 32 national points. He remained No. 2 in the battle to be crowned the 2022 PBR Australia Champion but climbed within 288.5 points of No. 1 Aaron Kleier (Clermont, Queensland).

Kleier’s seven-event win streak came to an end in Kilkivan as the four-time and reigning Australia Champion was shutout, going 0-for-2. After he was bucked off by Slink E Malinki (JD Bucking Bulls) in 3.5 seconds in Round 1, he was upended by Ranga (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls) in 2.1 seconds in the second round.

Young gun Qynn Andersen (Koumala, Queensland) was second, collecting 15 national points.

Despite being bested by Look At Me Now (J&J Riverview Cattle Company) in a cose 6.99 seconds in Round 1, the 19-year-old returned determined in Round 2, besting I’m A Thug (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls) for 85 points.

Andersen retained his No. 3 ranking in the nation, now 322 points back of No. 1 Kleier.

Compliments of his 84.5-point ride atop Jack Frost (Maynes Bucking Bulls) in Round 2, Beau Willis (Bowen, Queensland) was third.

Willis left the Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre having earned 11 national points.

Clay Hall (Athol, Queensland) was fourth.

Hall collected 9 national points for his 84-point effort aboard Spit n Grit (MJ/Keliher Bucking Bulls) in the opening round of competition.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Jake Curr (Mount Isa, Queensland).

Going 1-for-2, Curr rode Tezzas Pride (JD Bucking Bulls) for 82.5 points in Round 1 and earned 6 national points.

In the bull pen, Canadian Club (Maynes Bucking Bulls) was crowned the Bull of the Event. He was marked 43 points in Round 2 for his 4.98 seconds of work against Braith Nock (Bendemeer, New South Wales).    

The 2022 PBR Australia season will continue Saturday, October 15 for the Monster Energy Tour’s Mackay Invitational, presented by Kent Hire, in Mackay, Queensland. Action at BB Print Stadium will get underway at 7:00 p.m. AEDT.
