Newcastle, Australia. – Matt Triplett takes home his second PBR Australia buckle after being the only cowboy to ride all three bulls at the Brendon Clark Invitational and posting a massive 90.75 point score in the last ride of the night.

The last November Cup Series event began with Brendon Clark, wife Allison and son Casyn centre arena as clips of Brendon’s career played for the sold out Newcastle Entertainment Centre. Known as Australia’s million dollar cowboy Clark returned home from the USA for his 7th consecutive event.

Brendon Clark said it was great to have a sold our crowd again this year, making all the hard work behind the scenes worth it.

“I couldn’t be happier about Matt taking home the buckle. I know he’s been trying to get back into the riding form he was in 2015 before he got injured, and this win will catapult him right to the top of the standings going into the new 2017 season” Clark said.

Coming into the event as an alternate for an injured Roy Dunn, Josh Birks won the first round with a massive 88.75 points on TNR Bucking Bull’s On Point. Followed by Rubens Barbosa 75.25 points on Pale Face and Matt Triplett 85.75 points on Coors Light. In his first cup series Dysart’s Sonny Schafferius finished the first round in the top 4 riding Biddle’s Black and Decker for 85 points. Edmilson Goncalves 84.75pts, Cody Heffernan 83.75pts and Ian Molan 83.25pts also with scores in round one.

Matt Triplett won round two on Timm’s Gravity for 85.5 points. Followed by Cody Heffernan with 84 points on Down Under. Ian Molan was the only other cowboy to ride both his round bulls. With Queenslanders Mitch Paton and Braydon Wellby both making qualified rides in round two. It would be Wellby just missing out on the top 8 Short Go round.

With the first six cowboys all bucking off in the championship round it came down to Sonny Schafferius on Stuart Timm’s Jumping Jack, the judges awarding 88.50 points.

All eyes were then on Triplett as he slid up on his third and final bull of the night, Robert Bunn’s Acid Rain. Every person was up on their feet to watch Triplett post the highest score of the cup series with a massive 90.75 points. Acid Rain’s stock contractor Robert Bunn would also be taking home a Montana Silversmith buckle with the highest bull score of the night 44.75pts.

Newcastle is Triplett’s second event win on Australian soil, after also taking home the Tamworth Invitational buckle just two weekends ago. He now returns back to the United States being the number one ranked bull rider on the 2017 PBR World Standings.
