Not only riders from across the country will be flying into Rockhampton for the Great Western’s PBR event Saturday 20 May. Reining PBR Australian champion Cody Heffernan has confirmed he will fly back from the United States following PBR’s Helldorado Days– Last Cowboy Standing in Las Vegas Nevada.

Heffernan flew home late March for a few weeks before heading back to compete alongside the world’s elite bull riders. He certainly is making his presence felt on the world stage with a recent win at the PBR Witchita Kansas Classic where he picked up a cool $6890 (USD).

Cody was not the only Aussie to pick up a cheque, Kurt Shepard who has only recently returned to the arena following an injury picked up the runner ups cheque. A number of Aussie’s currently in the States are due back home mid June but for Heffernan, he is really keen to get back for Rockhampton.

“I’m excited about defending my title” the quietly spoken young man commented. Cody knows as well as anyone that the race for this year’s title is far from over – the competition all season has been hotly contested with a number of cowboys well in contention.

PBR rookies Sonny Schafferius (Dysart), Aaron Kleier (Clermont), Braydon Wellby (Townsville) and Rohan Markham (Ravenshoe) are right in the mix alongside the more experienced Jason Mara (Cloncurry) and Budd Williamson (Ayr) who will all proudly fly the flag for the Queenslanders.

Across the border New South Welshmen, Heffernan, Cliff Richardson and Troy Wilkinson are not about to back down so, it will all come down to the Finals which will be held at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney July 22.

The Great Western’s PBR event is a night not to be missed. Match up a great lineup of bull riders who are vying for Cup series qualification and National Finals, against a rank pen of bulls that will include PBR Bucking Bull of the Year contenders and you can be assured there will be more than a few thrills and spills.
